Serpentine Summer Pavilion
2015

A much anticipated London summer landmark has again opened to public.
The Serpentine Summer Pavilion celebrates it's 15th anniversary this summer and the contemporary structure has been designed by Spanish architects Selgascano.

This irregular 'chrysalis' like double layered structure, made out of opaque and translucent fluorine based plastic in a range of colours, can be entered into from various different points. It will immerse the viewer through a specific journey highlighting elements such as shadows, change, surprise, transparency and light.

At the heart of the structure you will find an open space for gathering, relaxing and perhaps to just taking in a moment to observe the interaction between the structure and it's surroundings and ever changing play of light and shadows.

Below you will find a range of gorgeous images that I took on a sunny Saturday whilst visiting.

Enjoy!

Tapio Wirkkala
Centenary

As I have just returned back to the office in London from a beautiful midsummer wedding in my homeland Finland, I thought I would highlight one of our most celebrated designers, Tapio Wirkkala's, hundredth anniversary.

The designer, sculptor and academician Tapio Wirkkala (1915–1985) was influential in launching the concept of modern Finnish, and Scandinavian, design, which still continues to enjoy international acclaim even today.

Wirkkala's  design works ranges from metalware to glass, ceramics to plywood and his talent even reaches the everyday essentials like our good old favourite, a  plastic ketchup bottle.
Wirkkala was even invited to put his design stamp on the Finnish markka banknotes in 1955.

Among his most famous works include the design of Finlandia vodka bottle (1970-2000) and Ultima Thule range for Iittala, which was originally designed for Finnair and is still in use in Finnair's premium cabins and airport lounges.
These designs feature dripping icicles that are also very much apparent in and inspired by the Finnish landscape.

I hope you enjoy the following images of Wirkkala's iconic designs.

Central Saint Martins Fine Art Degree Show
featuring Jason Nicholas Selby

It has been a busy few weeks for the Central Saint Martins graduates as they have been setting up installations for their final show.
I went along to support a friend and fine artist Jason Nicholas Selby who was showing his final installation, Citadel.

In Citadel, Selby explores dictatorships, both past and present alongside leading corporate companies trading in entertainment and consumer markets. Selby dissects their views, the environment and monuments they create and live in. He also explores the lasting affects on these in today's society.

Selby's work never show the complete story or historical moment as he encourages his audience to engage and investigate further.

You can find out more about Selby and his thought provoking work at
