Hygge

" The Soup Of Everyday Habits"
description by Meik Wiking, author of The Little Book of Hygge.

Hygge, this Danish phenomenon seems to be the talk of the town at current, so much so, that I also attended a talk by the Hygge Master Meik Wiking  himself in association with Heal's and Georg Jensen at Heal's Store, Tottenham Court Road, London.

The Little Book Of Hygge.

Hygge, still a strange concept for many, yet it has been rather a lifestyle, part of every day, to many if not all Scandinavians.

Hygge is about happiness and quality of life.
It's about creating atmosphere, cosiness, togetherness, home and family. Good conversation, food and time out from the ever changing demands of busy working world.

How to create the perfect Hyggelig home?

Candles, lots of them and low light is the perfect start.
These create your mellow relaxed scene.

Layers and texture.
Mix and match. Hygge is about informal settings and warmth.

Heal's have prepared a perfect Hyggelig corner for some ideas if you were to need them.

Red, White and Blue interiors
 to celebrate
Her Majesty The Queen's 90th birthday

If you fancy a change or a little update to your decor, why not consider using a combo of red, white and blue.

With this trend you can go as bold as you wish or just use the colours to update your interior looks by opting for a few accessories instead.

These colours work brilliantly in kids and teenage rooms too,  creating a fun, fresh and playful feel.

Check out these great images to get your creative juices flowing on this memorable day.

Rattan Revival

I found myself in Paris at the weekend for some spring inspiration and, of course, who can resist a little retail therapy when in the city of chic style. Popping into a favourite haunt of mine, Merci, a fantastic concept store in the hard of trendy Le Marais, I was pleasantly surprised by a corner of all things rattan.

Rattan takes me back to my childhood as in our family home my mother chose Cesca chairs designed by Marcel Breuer, for Knoll, for the dining room.

Not forgetting the iconic Coffee House Chair by Michael Thonet which was also creatively designed with a rattan seat.

Rattan has been in and out of fashion with the design crowd for many years, sometimes even thought of as tasteless but is yet again gaining popularity through it's versatility.

It can add interest and texture to any space if design is cleverly thought through. It can look great mixed with the minimalist scandi look and it can really bring on the retro vibe for vintage lovers.

Rattan has also in recent years become one of the favourites in garden spaces and varied wicker accessories can be a stylish alternative when dressing your home.

New Year, New Dreams

Tray Dreams
by
 Finnish design talent Pauliina Jalasmaa

As the 'January Blues' has well and truly hit most of us, I thought it was fitting to introduce this little gem of a collection to spice up your deco, lift your spirits and start the countdown to a colourful spring.

Tray Dreams is a beautifully colourful range of practical yet decorative trays designed by Pauliina. Project Color Amoris was born as a result of Pauliina's passionate hunt for the perfect tray to compliment her personal collection of delicately patterned teaware.

Each eco friendly tray has been handcrafted in Finland using birch wood from sustainably managed Finnish forests.
As a material, birch wood is known for it's texture and durability which not only make each tray a little unique but also very easy to maintain.

Whether you are looking for a pop of colour for decorative purposes or even an alternative to traditional placemats to jazz up your dinner parties, you are sure to find the perfect match from a palette of 24 colours, each named after an island around the world.
